Mount Royal University

MRU is a prestigious University located in the south west of Calgary. It offers a fully-equipped recreational facility that is committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for all users. The recreational areas of the campus provide first-rate amenities for a wide variety of athletes and sports. The facility offers a 25 meter pool.

Rocky Mountain Show Jumping

Next to Spruce Meadows, RMSJ hosts the most prestigious equestrian competitions in the province. They host over 20 competitions each season including both show jumping and dressage. The facility offers magnificent views of the Canadian Rocky Mountains and nearby foothills and is a short drive from the MRU campus. The Owner and Operator of RMSJ, John Anderson, was a member of the Canadian Olympic Show Jumping team and continuously represents Canada in international competitions.

  • Riding (including the test ride) and the combined event will take place at Rocky Mountain Show Jumping


  • Swimming: 25m indoor swimming pool – 8 lanes.
  • Fencing: 6 to 8 pistes
  • Equestrian: Outdoor sand ring
  • Laser/Run: 6 laser targets. All events are laser. Pentathlon Alberta encourages participants to borrow or acquire a laser pistol prior to the event. Some pistols may be available, please confirm with Pentathlon Alberta 
  • Youth A/B, Junior, Senior, Masters: combined event (laser) according to UIPM rules.

The Competition will be carried out according to the 2017 UIPM rules.

Youth athlete participant or any non-riding athlete in other categories is $200.00 CND

Junior/Senior/Masters riding athlete participant is $300.00 CND

Fees include event accreditation, Sunday relay participation and Saturday banquet. 

There is a $25.00 discount for those participants who also attend the UIPM clinic hosted by PA the week prior and pass the exam at the end of the course. Please indicate this on your entry form. The rebate will be processed after your registration is complete. 

The fee for Saturday’s banquet is $40 CND (supporter) for adults and $30 CND for children those 12 and under.

Supporters may also register to participate as athletes in the fun relay for $45.

The early bird deadline for registration and payment is June 14th. Registration and payment after June 14th – add $50.00 CND. The organizing committee will NOT accept any registrations after June 25th.

No refunds will be given after June 25th.

To register for the event:

Step 1)

Go to pentathlonalberta.ca and login.
Please note that if you are not a Pentathlon Alberta member you will need to register as an out-of-town athlete in order to login. There is no cost associated with this. 

Step 2)

Once you are logged in go to the Nationals event section and register for either the full pentathlon, tetrathon, relay or banquet. 


If you are unable to complete the registration online please contact entries@pentathlonalberta.com to make other arrangements. Registration will be considered completed and accepted when payment is received. 

Early bird deadline June 14th. Registration will be accepted until June 25th but will incur a late fee of $50. No registration will be accepted after June 25th

Pentathlon Alberta will not accept any responsibility, financial or otherwise, for loss, injury or illness of any Delegation member. All members of the attending Delegations must insure themselves with sufficient health, accident and liability insurance. You must be a member of either a provincial or national pentathlon federation. By submitting the competition entry, your national or provincial federation confirms that all persons named on the entry are covered by such insurance. All athletes must sign waivers, and any athlete from outside of Canada must provide proof of medical insurance.

International participants are responsible for personal insurance during their stay.


Laser weapons/air pistols with low velocity are not considered firearms under Canadian law. It is recommended you travel with appropriate documentation for your pistol (Including muzzle velocity specifications) and laser attachments (including laser type and safety specifications). If not required otherwise during your trip you can leave any pellet barrels at home.

A block of apartments in the MRU residences are available to athletes attending the UIPM clinic as well as the Canadian Nationals Pentathlon. The units are townhouses with 4 separate bedrooms per townhouse. All units are fully furnished including a single bed, each in a private room, full kitchen and living room with cable television and 2 full bathrooms. Each townhouse is equipped with wireless internet. The cost per night is $54.50 per night.

Please note that participants are ultimately responsible for themselves to find accommodation.

Additionally, the Calgary Stampede, a major sporting event, is taking place at the same time as the Pentathlon Championships. This will have a strong effect on the availability of accommodation. Please book your accommodation early.

Pentathlon Alberta is excited to offer the UIPM’s Level 1 Coaching Certification Programme (CCP) July 5 – 7, 2017. Hosted in conjunction with the Canadian National Championships, this is one of the first opportunities to complete the program in North America.

The coaching clinic will be held at MRU and will cover training programs and physiology, technical development, coaching roles and talent identification.

A $25 discount on registration for the Pentathlon Nationals will be given to athletes who also participate in the coaching clinic.
